12 Benefits of Information Technology in Our Daily Lives

Information Technology plays an imperative part in elevating the quality of our lives. In this day and age, any and everything related to digital communications and technologies falls under information technology’s hold, from messaging friends to analyzing data for work. The scope for how information technology can be utilized is endless, and suffice to say it is a necessity in our everyday lives.

There are endless benefits to the integration of information technology in our day-to-day activities. So much has been made better and easier thanks to technological advancements, and the following is a list of only a few of the ways in which we are able to achieve these pros with the help of modern technology.

      1. Globalization

One of the greatest impacts of the expansion of information technology has been the elimination of physical barriers to getting ideas and opportunities across no matter where you are in the world. The widespread use of different social media platforms has facilitated the connection of culturally diverse people from between nations.

Two users on a social media site could be from any two countries, sitting on opposite ends of the world, and the fact that that is more likely than them being from within the same regions speaks greatly about how quickly and expansively globalization has risen thanks to information technology.

      2.  Access to Information

As its name implies, information technology allows us to attain large amounts of information at a significantly quicker rate, thanks to the help of different hardware and software networks. This combination of technology allows for different data configurations, which then create new information.

From news to resources to entertainment, anything one can imagine is available through an easy online search; it is a straightforward process to look something up and enjoy what it has to offer.

      3. Quicker Communication

Only a few decades ago, paper mail was the most common form of communication. But today, the thought of sitting down to write a letter is something that hardly crosses anyone’s mind; not when modern technology allows you to instantly message or call someone, or set up a virtual video meeting.

Staying connected and updated on what friends and family are up to, or reaching out to others on a professional basis, are things that we do every day, and the ways that they are done all rely on the advanced digital technologies that have come out over the past few years.

      4.  Saving Time

As mentioned, information technology allows us to gain access to data easily. But now, not only is there more that is out there, but gaining access to it takes only seconds.

Gone are the days of needing to wait for a broadcast, or having to go out to a specific location because what you’re looking for is only available there. Now you quickly and conveniently look up information, from research journals, and download entertainment from movies to music. It is a matter of moments, and the time that modern technology saves us compared to how long the process of accessing information is staggering.

      5.  Cost Efficiency

In the same vein as saving time, we are now able to reduce costs and make smarter decisions when it comes to spending money thanks to these advancements in technology.

It is no longer a requirement to have to spend money on mailing out letters or making costly long distance phone calls.  Emails, social media platforms such as Facebook, and messaging systems such as WhatsApp are all freely available to the public. One can even save on travel costs for having to visit someone in person as often as they may have had to only a few years ago thanks to how much less costly it is to keep in touch.

Even accessing information has led to efficient spending. Purchasing books for research is replaced by the much more affordable purchasing of subscriptions to online resources, and communities exist to share free options as well.

      6.  Better Transactions

Digital and web-based banking and payment systems have quickly become the norm. Services such as PayPal have introduced new payment methods that are both convenient and quicker for their users. Hardly anyone uses cash these days, or even credit cards, and instead rely on the banking systems apps in their phones.

These are not only reserved for online transactions either, but apply to offline, in-person experiences as well. So, while bills can be set up to automatically be paid when due, one can also be out and about in the middle of a store and able to pay and make transfers electronically through contactless cards and phone payments.

      7. Convenient Shopping

Ordering a delivery online is not only made convenient thanks to offline payment methods, but because of the range of what is available.   If you own a smartphone, then you have easy access to countless online stores, all in one place, where you can essentially purchase anything you may want to.

While shopping in person gives you the benefit of being able to see a product and how it works personally, many of these products are not even available in local stores to begin with. Thanks to the revolution of online shopping, however, you can view wares from virtually anywhere, eliminating the need to go out hunting for what you are looking for, and instead allowing you to open up a web page or app.

      8. Improved Data Security

It is inevitable that with the rise of online transactions and what is now a culture of online retail, that we now also have improved data security.

Cybersecurity measures are available to protect both hardware and software data from cyber threats. Individuals can keep their data safe, and know only authorized parties have access to it.  Enterprises are able to keep their customers’ data safer in their digital databases compared to having to create and store physical files, and can keep it encrypted and safely locked away.

      9.  Artificial Intelligence

The modern framework for artificial intelligence is something that is not only quickly growing, but is also quickly being applied to our daily lives.

Searching for something on the internet and receiving a personalized recommendation, according to your taste is thanks to AI. Being able to pull up Google Maps and view where you are going is thanks to AI. Selecting an automatic reply to a text message is thanks to AI.

The use of AI is not limited to what most people first think of, which is a sentient form of technology as seen in movies, but these smaller, casual incorporations into tasks that we perform every day.

      10.  Better Decision Making

Information technology allows us to process and analyze vast amounts of data in seconds, which in turn means that the decisions we make based off of this information improve as well.

With technologies such as machine learning and AI, users are able to reduce the margin of error, and make more accurate decisions.

     11.  Healthcare

Utilizing technology for healthcare isn’t something that only large hospitals or pharmaceutical corporations are able to take advantage of. Anyone can now communicate with their doctor digitally, set up appointments virtually, and even have a check-up remotely.

Moreover, many apps are now available to let you take your health into your own hands and keep track of your activities, monitor any changes, and keep the state of your health at a conscious place in your mind due to the ease with which you can keep yourself updated.

This emphasis on healthcare, and more importantly, being more personally involved in one’s own health, is something that is on the rise thanks to modern technology.

     12.  Increased Innovation

Needless to say, information technology and advancements in modern technology as a whole have opened the gates to innovation. From the availability of resources, to the sharing of ideas across spaces and between different communities of people, society is now more innovative than ever.

Entrepreneurial endeavors are on the rise, and setting up businesses is something that no longer requires brick and mortar stores to do. Anyone with an internet connection and an idea can introduce their ideas to the world, and countless industries are making great steps to update themselves, and consequently provide better, innovative services to the people around them.
